Economics can be referred to as a social science that analyzes the tasks such as production of goods/servicesfollowed by their distribution and consumption. The term economics is derived from an ancient Greekword oikonomia meaning management of a household, administration where oikos means house and nomos means custom or law.

History of Economics
Economic writings date back from the early Greek,Mesopotamian, Roman, Chinese, Indian subcontinent, Persian, and Arab civilizations. There are a number of notable writers in economics up to the 14th century including Aristotle, Chanakya, Xenophon, Ibn Khaldun, Qin Shi Huang, and Thomas Aquinas. Two groups, known as the "mercantilists" and "physiocrats", more directly swayed the subsequent development of the subject. They were both associated with the rise of economic nationalism as well as modern capitalism in Europe. While Mercantilism was an economic doctrine that flourished from the 16th to 18th century, Physiocrats was a group consisting of 18th century French thinkers and writers who came up with the idea of economy as a circular flow of income and output. Modern economics is said to have begun with Adam Smith (1723-1790) who was extremely critical of the mercantilists. In contrast, he believed the physiocratic system as the purest approximation to the truth that has yet been published on the subject even with all its imperfections.
